If There's an Eternity, I'll Love You There Again

Last night I said my final goodbyes to a friend, companion and comforter who shared my life for nearly eight years.

Dudley was a shelter cat. He was also a "replacement" cat. I'd lost Duncan a couple of months before I adopted Dudley. Duncan was a very special little guy who died far too soon - only a year after I adopted him, of a brain aneurysm. Losing Duncan was particularly hard because he'd had a rough start in life, and only had a year of comfort and happiness in my home before he died, far too young. He was only three years old.

A Brief Reflection on Guns and Aurora

Here in Texas, my soon-to-be-ex-state-of-residence, there is plenty of talk about the Aurora tragedy. I met some friends for lunch yesterday - husband, wife, grown daughter. The talk naturally turned to the shooting in Colorado.

Their take on how this tragedy could have been prevented, or at least ameliorated:

1) Everyone in the theatre should have been armed. If there had been a lot of people packing, the gunman would have been taken out immediately, tear gas and shock notwithstanding.
