So, Petraeus, Broadwell, Libya, secret prisons . ..

Some of us were discussing this report and article from CNN.  Here's where we can conspiracize to our hearts' content.  Why not?  We'll likely never know the truth, with all these unrelliable sources and diverse motives.

This isn't a funny story, but a little humor is one way to cope

with things... sometimes.

"Published on Nov 12, 2012 by John Aravosis

Instead of calling Paula Broadwell's biography of former CIA director David Petraeus by its correct title, "All In," ABC Denver calls Petraeus' biography: "All Up In My Snatch." Seriously. The local station has now confirmed the mistake. More on the story here:"

Confirmed: ABC Denver misnames Petraeus book, “All up in my snatch”

That's hilarious

and so indicitive of the mindless media's coverage of fake news. Hard to believe that whoever captured the screen shot didn't have a wicked sense of humor. It's mind boggling that people take anything the TV 'news' media says as anything but what it is propaganda. Like the kabuki in politics it's just so obvious and idiotic.

John Aravosis wrote this at the bottom of the link I posted

above:

Lesson here: Never grab images off of the Internet.  BTW, I tried to find this particular image of the book online, but couldn’t. Which makes me think someone was being cute in the graphics department of the station, and then made a job-killing mistake.

That's funny, too.

Ah, another twist:

Glinda's picture

Jill Kelley, the woman who received the emails, contacted a male FBI friend of hers to look into it.

And whaddya know:

That is the first disturbing fact: it appears that the FBI not only devoted substantial resources, but also engaged in highly invasive surveillance, for no reason other than to do a personal favor for a friend of one of its agents, to find out who was very mildly harassing her by email.[...]

That this deeply personal motive was what spawned the FBI investigation is bolstered by the fact that the initial investigating agent "was barred from taking part in the case over the summer due to superiors' concerns that he was personally involved in the case" - indeed, "supervisors soon became concerned that the initial agent might have grown obsessed with the matter" - and was found to have "allegedly sent shirtless photos" to Kelley, and "is now under investigation by the Office of Professional Responsibility, the internal-affairs arm of the FBI".

(Bolding is mine)

Above quotes taken from yet another excellent article by Glenn Greenwald.  Very interesting reading.

FBI's abuse of the surveillance state is the real scandal needing investigation

Not to mention

shaharazade's picture

the whole concept of a security state. It's really absurd and yet it is the relity were all expected to accept as reality. If we don't we are traitors and enemies of the state. How sick is the by-partisan consensus  we operate from.

Related information - who might replace Petraeus

traveler's picture

This is another perspective and some insight with respect to Petraeus and Iran with Ray McGovern on The Real News. There is a discussion about who might be a replacement for Petraeus as head of the CIA.

Such a sane conversation

This Petraeus is  a con man--his acknowledged philosophy is a con man philosophy. And he's proof that it works pretty well. I wonder whether it's really just that enough people got sick of his act.  Anyway, thanks for that.  It's encouraging to hear him not assuming that Obama will necessarily stay the same.  Seems naive to me, but he's a lot closer to the inside.

Also some words of wisdom from Juan Cole

traveler's picture

Professor Cole says that Petraeus' surge and COIN doctrine in Afghanistan were a failures and explains why. He also explains why the PNAC neocons are out of sync with reality in today's world.

This is from Democracy Now.

So much important stuff there

geomoo's picture

Very well said at the end:  if a foreign power tries to come in and impose rights for women, they will do more harm to that cause than help.  So much common sense wisdom in there.  It encourages me when these knowledgeable people talk about Obama as a naif rather than as a charlatan.
