Sunday Night Open Thread, NBC sucks edition

Just adding to the uninformed people they have "hosting" the Olympics, not showing the Opening Ceremony live, not showing the tribute to the 7/7 terror attack victims, just add this to their list of they suck

If you watched Ryan Lochte's gold medal-winning swim live, you were in the vast minority. Or you simply don't live in the U.S.

While so many in the world, regardless of what time it was in their parts, watched and enjoyed, Americans could only watch online, and then hope their browsers wouldn't seize up -- a problem reported by readers, and experienced firsthand by yours truly.

Naturally, complaints have rained down on NBC like frogs at the end of "Magnolia."

Those who understand sports and the world have been quick to condemn. The Dallas Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki, for example, tweeted: "Can't believe they didn't show Phelps Lochte live. Now, we all know who won. This is frustrating."

Some have even called for an absolute boycott of NBC in the evenings.

On a lighter note... well, you can add it ;)

Former President Bill Clinton is set to play a central part in the Democratic convention, aides said, and will formally place President Obama’s name into nomination by delivering a prime-time speech designed to present a forceful economic argument for why Mr. Obama deserves to win a second term.

The prominent role of Mr. Clinton, which is scheduled to be announced on Monday, signals an effort by the Obama campaign to pull out all the stops to rally Democrats when they gather for their party’s national convention in Charlotte, N.C. An even more important audience will be the voters across the country who will see the address carried by television networks.

Hello

Mehitabel's picture

And many thanks to Glinda for subbing tonight. I am halfway through a semi-epic cross-country road trip along with my three cats - moving from Texas back to my home in Washington State. Other than a kind of vague awareness that there's some big sporting event somewhere in England right now, and additionally vague awareness that somebody or other is running for President... I am utterly ignorant of what is going on in the world. Hopefully I'll be able to catch up in a week or so.

In the meantime...

Yeah, they are having the big FIFA ...

... Association Football Under-23 World Football Tournament across Britain.

And also a variety of other sports are competing at the same time because, hey, if you are going to be at the U23 football championships anyway, why not have a competition in your own sport and make it a tax deduction?

Great bike race this morning, but.

I would have preferred the road races on a side channel where they could show the whole thing, but its not like NBC has any experience with broadcasting major bike races (other NBC Sports with Tour of California, ProTour Challenge in Colorado, the Tour de France, small races like that).

Too bad about that flat tire, but both races were won on the break, which is what I like to see in a one-day Classic.
