SO it's getting to the middle of football season, the end of baseball, and almost basketball, and gawd willing hockey season. And we had the Olympics this past summer too. So the question is this:
What is your favorite sport? It can be one you play or watch, and it can be as unique as sports can be - i.e. windsurfing counts, etc....
And what's going on with you?
Comments
I'm going to pick a few...
i love football - prob my pop's fault. I also love baseball - grew up an Angels and Red Sox fan. Also love hockey cuz it's soooooo fast paced.
i would have to say though, probably football and for watching - the downhill for skiing - i love watching them go down the hill... :D
how could you like both Anaheim and Boston?
I've hated the Red Sox ever since Clemens joined them.
Poker
They show it on ESPN it must be a sport.
works for me... i think poker counts...
takes some good skill and is a game... i love poker... :D
Go Ducks.
I played baseball and basketball in high school, and ran cross country. I rowed crew in college when i was at Penn.
And I've been known to waste an afternoon watching golf..
dang, you were an active kid! and how
cool - crew - love crew! :D
I rowed lightweight 8s...
...but having to get my 6'4" frame down to 140-145 lbs drove me to distraction...and probably contributed to my first mental breakdown.
Baseball, boxing, and basketball
I used to play baseball and basketball in little league.
OT I watched the Descendants with George Clooney. Depressing, massively over-hyped, and not very good.
thank you.
I had a real feeling I wanted to avoid that movie, you have just sealed that deal for me.
Anytime
Definitely one to avoid. I don't know what the big fuss was about. Get a grip, Academy.
that's very cool... :D
the only thing i ever played was softball and i sucked at it...
and thanks for the heads up on the Descendants - would've made time to see it, but now i think i'll wait til its the last available option....
I didn't play for very long and I was OK
not spectacular, but it was fun.
Anytime. Yeah, it's one of those over-hyped movies not worth the time.
Once upon a time
I loved baseball. I was a Dodgers fan. Well... I was a fan of going to games at Dodger Stadium, eating hotdogs and peanuts, drinking beer, people-watching, and maybe once in a while checking out what was happening on the field. I drove my honest-to-god Dodger fan friends crazy, actually. They'd be, "Check out that double play!" and I'd be "Check out that funny looking guy wearing the Spock ears and the Star Trek shirt!" I got disgusted and gave up on baseball for good during the 1994 strike and have never looked back.
I went to a hockey game once and thought that was pretty cool. Especially the fights. I had no idea I had an inner bloodthirsty gladiator groupie, but apparently I did.
Other than that, I have no use whatever for professional sports. I loathe basketball, dislike football, don't care about baseball. I guess hockey is still okay but then again I never watch hockey games anymore.
I'm completely disgusted with how long the seasons have gotten. I remember the World Series of my youth being played in early October. Now, apparently, the godforsaken season is going to keep going till Thanksgiving. Basketball used to be over by the end of March, now I think they're still playing in July. It. drives. me. crazy. I try to avoid it all but it's darn near impossible to shut it completely out of my life. I even stopped watching the Olympics (mostly) when they let professional athletes compete.
I like curling, though. Curling is very, very cool.
curling is cool! and it gets teh shaft from
the press most of the time during the Olympics...
and yeah - hockey is a great game... and i do love the sound of a good solid check against the boards... it is an inner gladiator thing... :D
I love this scene:
yeah, but i gotta disagree with it....
the heartstopping pace is part of the draw... :D and Hoynes is from Texas - he wouldn't understand, lol... ;>
Cycle racing ...
... soccer and rugby league.
The Columbus Crew are going to need at least a win and a draw out of the last two games of the regular season to get through to the playoffs. OTOH the Newcastle Jets just got their first win to open up their account in the A-League, with Emile Hesky scoring one of their three in the game.
nice! man rugby is one rugged game...
fun to watch and even more fun terminology... :D
Rugby League is the ....
... modified version developed in the North of England. Rugby Union was always an amateur sport played by young gentlemen at public schools and then played in University and social rugby clubs.
For the coal miners and millworkers of the North, making a few bob playing professionally in a stadium instead of going down pit or into the "Satanic Mills" was appealing enough, and they modified the rules to make the game more fun to watch.
Rugby League is the more popular style of rugby in the eastern states of Australia, and I got into watching it in my decade in Newcastle (Australia), where they are mad for it. Unlike rugby union, when the player with the ball gets tackled, they get up and play the ball to a team-mate and play continues, until the sixth tackle, when the ball is turned over, so its like six downs to go the length of the field and score instead of four downs to go 10.
Don't get to see it much in northeast Ohio, so I watch more cycling and association football nowadays. Watch a lot of parts of american football games too, if I have a team to barrack for.
Glad to see you, Bruce.
I was wondering if you were doing okay ;)
Oh, the end of the term is always fun ...
... and career colleges are great because they happen five times a year. !
But I'll be taking advantage of the new schedule, since I've been moved from a Monday Morning class to a Monday Evening class, so I don't actually have to work on class until Monday afternoon, and have all of Sunday evening free for the Sunday Train.
I suck at sports.
I really hate watching them, except maybe football with friends or family. I was always a nerdy wallflower kid who didn't play on any teams at all, although I wanted to try soccer and track, but never did. I do enjoy walking, hiking, and skiing, but only because of the views, fresh air, and solitude. I'm allergic to actual exercise.
hey - walking, hiking, and skiing are sports...
they count... i'm allergic to exercise too, unless its something like walking, hiking, or skiing, where i'm having fun and not doing it for exercise, lol... :D
Favorite sport
As a participant, competitive keg-standing.
As a spectator, football, followed closely by Nascar. I follow my college basketball teams and I like to catch a hockey game from time to time, but they play too damn much for me to keep up.
competitive keg standing, lol....
nice... and i follow some college hoops too - i get into march madness every year... though i prefer football - it's my primary spectator sport... :D
I like playing soccer (if I could find an elderly gents league)
and enjoy watching almost any sport. I'm an Angels fan and an Oregon Ducks fan. I also like David Duval, of the PGA types. He's one of only a couple of professional golfers who's a Democrat. The rest are Republicans.
