Boiling Frog Election Insanity

Here we are over a month from the 2012 elections and less than three months until the end of the Mayan calendar and the human race continues on a downward spiral. It doesn’t appear the end is imminent as some think the Mayan calendar predicts, but how can it be described any other way if you consider the entire planet and it’s human population? A downward spiral. The current population is over 7 billion and under current growth rates should reach 10 billion by around 2050. For the younger set, when I was born the population was a little over 2,5 billion.

The science Is above most of us but we keep hearing about and experiencing global warming or climate change which apparently is being caused by the increasing number of humans and how we live on this planet. We’re having problems now and we keep adding more and more people while trying to live the in same manner. That seems to indicate the problems will worsen. Can you say "Duh"?

The efforts by governments and individuals to alter the course appear to be much too little (that's being too generous, governments, especially our own, aren't doing shit except making it worse) and maybe much too late for billions of humans. Americans read this kind of thing and their condescendingly conditioned, racist minds automatically shift to starving Ethiopians or bloated black babies in Kenya. They don’t or can’t acknowledge that Mother Earth plays no favorites.

They go about their almost perpetual election routines, where everything except what really matters is reported ad infinitum in print, TV and over the internet. The entire spectacle has become surreal now, not that the political process hasn’t always been a painful way to our faux democracy. But now it’s become kind of like torture, Executive assassinations, illegal wars, drone attacks, spying on Americans, and TSA genital gropes. The lies, the showmanship and the utter bullshit are blatantly obvious, out in the open, expected and imperviously accepted. It’s all about who gets to control the downward spiral at any given time. It makes me wonder how the hell far they can take this. Evidently it’s to the bottom.

No, “we’re” not better off than we were four years ago. How the hell can anyone who isn’t totally self- absorbed, like the partisan “follow Obama’s lead” democrats for instance, think that the country and the planet are better off than four years ago?

"Well, ya I’m better off because I got my 23 year old kid back on my insurance policy. And I’m better off because I got my job back putting car doors on cars, even though my pay and benefits were cut, still better than being unemployed ya know. I’m better off because now I can join the military as a gay person and serve my corporate masters without discrimination." The "Are you better off than four years ago" tripe was pure bullshit and they knew it which is why they dropped that theme like a hot dragonfly drone.

Get past your selfish selves and look around. Not just here but all over the planet. Poverty is increasing worldwide. Rising food prices and shortages, Water shortages. Austerity cuts to pay the bankers and Wall Street for their losses, Social Security and Medicare in the short sights. Pensions being cut, Wages falling. Massive unemployment. Middle class disappearing. A capitalist system requiring the endless production of goods to sustain itself. Illegal Wars and more wars with the threat of WW3 closer than any time since WW2. Weapons and intelligence industries becoming the top industries on earth. The Military Industrial Complex on Steroids. Armed drones proliferating the globe. Oil wars. Financial collapse. Banks running the world. Inflation, militarization of law enforcement, war on drugs, drones over American skies, tanks in American cities, the rich keep getting richer (really FUCKING rich), the banks are buying and selling all the assets with the bailout money, Austerity protests in Spain and Greece and throughout the Middle East. Famine and more fucking genocide in Africa. Reinvigoration of the Cold War with Russia and official insittution of a Cold War with China. The Global War on Terror lasting FOREVER. A quadrillion dollar derivatives market out of control! HEY! Do you know what that is? I don't either but it's fucking bad.

“Things” are going progressively downhill on this planet and everybody fucking knows it. They can feel it if anything. Ask your neighbor. Ask the little old lady across the street. Any little victories like the Lily Ledbetter Act , DADT, and Obamacare are easily overshadowed by the overall condition of “things”. Deep down people know, they’ve read and watched the science fiction books and movies and have envisioned the possibilities imagined by the human mind about what could happen to the human race. Internet searches for and interest in George Orwell's 1984 has never been higher. They can see alot of that shit happening right now and can certainly imagine more down the pike.

I’m a father and a grandfather and yes I do wonder about the future for my descendants. I have a brand new grandson, three days old at writing, who will be 38 in the year 2050, when the population on this planet reaches 10 billion, all things considered, lord willing and the creek don’t rise. That's not long, time flies and I don’t want my grandson to be facing apocalypse when he’s the same age I was introduced to lattes.

So go though your fucking election season again and elect some more politicians. Listen to the speeches and debates, read the signs and watch the commercials. Take it all in like you do when you’re watching the newest season of American Idol or The Voice. Absorb yourself in another artificially created reality show while the human race flails about. It’s not going to solve any of the problems the human race faces. It’s not going to make us better in four years. It's just going to make things worse because everyone is ignoring the real problems and pretending a corrupt human system will somehow save the day.

In fact, many are already talking about 2016. Hillary in 2016 or Jeb Bush in 2016. What the Fuck (WTF).

Boiling Frogs. Stop being Boiling Frogs.

Don't give up

traveler's picture

Throw a jab once in a while just to make these authoritarian followers, some of them anyway, think twice. When this one blows up in their faces, like Obama's Afghanistan surge has, at least you will have the satisfaction knowing you were correct.

If this ends in an attack on Iran the Muslim world is going to explode. This is a recipe for WWIII and will turn dreams of empire into a bankrupt nightmare.

Just came from there

and did a bit of that myself and rec'd a couple of your comments while there. Priceman had an excellent comment on the recent bomb Iran diary which seemed to be based on the premise that Iran has an ongoing nuc weapons program.

More bullshit as you know.

they get to join the club

sartoris's picture

Iran will have a nuclear device soon. They will join the club and there is simply nothing that can be done to stop them from acquiring a weapon. South Africa and North Korea both were able to develop weapons in spite of near world wide sanctions. The irony is that South Africa was only able to develop their nuclear program with the assistance of the Israelis. I would consider Pakistan a more unstable govt than Iran and no one is remotely suggesting that we go to war with Pakistan to secure those weapons. This is all a temptes in a teapot. They will go nuclear and the world will somehow muddle on with one more country in the nuclear club.

The post was not a "bomb Iran diary"...

Meteor Blades's picture

...On the contrary.

It contained commentary on the president's latest change of language at the U.N. regarding Iran (doing "what we must" to prevent it from getting the Bomb) and asked readers how many civilians they would be willing to kill to accomplish the obvious implications of the president's comment with a poll to suss out differences in people's views.

From that, we learned only 17% at Daily Kos back a military assault (a good thing, although others support sabotage and cyberwar that I do not). As for the post being based on the premise that Iran has an ongoing nuclear weapons program, that is not the case. The issue is that the president and others publicly state that the U.S. should everything possible to stop Iran from getting a Bomb, and the poll was created to see how much agreement there is with the president on this.

As for whether Iran is seeking a Bomb, I've read the same studies and comments from folks about the NIE and other assessments as everyone else, as well as years of IAEA reports on the subject. It cannot be said with certainty either way. Yes, there are those with axes to grind in the matter who wish everyone to believe that it is "obvious" or "certain" that Iran is on the path to a Bomb. I don't think it is obvious or certain. I think it is possible.

The issue for those opposed to war on Iran, however, should be that it doesn't matter whether Iran is pursuing the building of nukes. We should be arguing that no war should be made on Iran even if it builds a nuke. That will have a lot more resonance than arguing that it isn't seeking to build one so there should be no attack and then having to backtrack if that assessment turns out to be mistaken. To reiterate, we should say no war on Iran whether it builds a Bomb or not.

appreciate the clarification MB, and totally...

agree with your last paragraph.

there is literally no way to prevent all our "enemies" from becoming nuclear at this point in time. even warring on them will not prevent it. maybe delay it, but not prevent it. once the genie was let out of the bottle, it won't be put back in unless there is a real honest drive involving all countries for nonproliferation, and given that having nuclear power (not meaning energy) gives a certain amount of "power" to the country that has it, it's only logical that many countries will want that power. not all - thank gawd for small favors and some countries intent on doing the right thing...

and good to see you here... :D

Yes, all we can get from electoral politics ...

BruceMcF's picture

... is all it can deliver, and there is simply no structural guarantee that all it can deliver is enough for the minimum required for survival.

So maybe we have to demand all it can deliver, and once we get that, find ways to go around it to get still more.

The radical reactionaries have no compunction of using that twin track approach for furthering our suicide, I don't see why we can't contemplate using its power for good rather than for evil.

"find ways to go around it to get still more"

priceman's picture

is the main path. The rest will have to follow. That's where Occupy came in and where it's still is regardless of what we hear on the COM.

I don't see why we can't contemplate using its power for good rather than for evil.

Well Democratic Senators had a chance to block the Roberts court once. They were scared to death by Bill Frist. No Democratic Senator is going to really filibuster anything to bring the legislative branch to a halt like the radical right reactionaries do. We'll see how many of them fall in line for Obama's Grand bargain. Once they do, it will be hard to make any point about working within the system.

That is unless they find their inner Eugene McCarthy and say the emperor or unitary executive has no clothes and they should; they don't work for the President; they're supposed to be working for us.
