Chronic Tonic at VOTS- Mother's Day

As a family we were never the Hallmark Card picture of any holiday, but we celebrated and enjoyed them just the same. Mother's Day was no exception. We never did anything over the top, just cards and flowers for mom, gifts when we were flush, and a nice family dinner. The non-moms get to clean up and that is pretty much how it went for most of my life.

Chronic Tonic at VOTS - Trouble

We've all got trouble sometimes, but when it's trouble with your kid, well it messes with you in ways I can't even describe. Last week there was an incident at school, the details aren't that important, Danny tried to hurt himself and we can't have that. We already had the name of an excellent child psychologist who specializes in kids on the spectrum and he was willing to clear some time to do an emergency risk assessment and see Dan right away.

Chronic Tonic at VOTS- It's That Time Again

It's that time of year again, next week we have the yearly IEP meeting. I don't anticipate a whole lot of problems at the table, but this is never fun. Dan will be moving on to a different teacher next year, and I have no idea what she's like, but I'm not going to borrow that worry ahead of time. I have to take everything one piece at a time.

Chronic Tonic at VOTS- Open Thread

You guys are getting the short shrift tonight, not because I want to, because I thought I'd get up and with an urge to write, but what I got up with was an urge to pee. Not that strange, happens to a lot of people, but when I went to pee...oh, problem! It would seem I have a UTI, or as we say at chez triv, the pissers and, yes, I am a little pissy.

Chronic Tonic at VOTS- Slushies

I have nothing big to share this week. Just one happy story. I spent a little bit of money that I probably shouldn't have to buy a 30 dollar slushie/snowcone maker and I bought a few syrups. I made sure I got the syrups that were made with pure cane sugar, too, because they taste better.

Well, the machine arrived last Thursday and me and my boys have been enjoying a different flavored slushie every night. I do not know what it is about the slushie that makes my boys almost dance in anticipation as I crush the ice, but even seeing that one time was well worth the money.

Chronic Tonic at VOTS- Superlative? Nay! Nay!

As most of you know, I am on SSDI, and I spent a good portion of the day yesterday debating with somebody who was either being deliberately disingenuous or possibly just moronic.  I kind of doubt anybody is quite that stupid, though. This person just continually insisted that the  "superlative" CPI the president is proposing is not a cut. I beg to differ. Oh, and so does anybody with a lick of sense and a rudimentary understanding of math.

Chronic Tonic at VOTS- And Now, A Happy Story

Saturday night my headache broke and I set about dying eggs with my boys. Danny is always glad to take part, but as much as Collin and I try to draw him out, until this year, he's always done so kind of on his own terms and he's never been all that chatty. It is what it is with a kid on the spectrum. I take what I can get. This year we had a kit with both the baths to dye a solid color egg, and little trays of glossy color to sponge or q-tip on top. Now, Dan's a little artist, so I thought this might appeal to him.

Chronic Tonic at VOTS-This Weather Isn't Helping

WTF, Canada? Why are you sending all that cold air down here? Look, I watched the weather last night, I know it's you. My kid wants sidewalk chalk in his Easter basket. How the hell is he supposed to use it on a cold, wet patio? Now, it's supposed to be Spring, knock this shit off.

Yeah, I'm a little crabby. It all started with a little tingle on my lip, so I started the Abreva right away, and that usually works, but not this time--fever blister. Next, pressure in my face. Hey, aren't you supposed to get the sickness or the fever blister, not both? Why am I getting both?

Chronic Tonic at VOTS- The Nose Knows

You know I'm used to pain, I have some all the time. Some days are a whole lot worse than others and some headaches can rage on at high gear for days on end, but I don't always get sick with it. That comes when it damn well feels like it and I never know when that will be. It is the worst.  Because I will get sick just smelling something.

Chronic Tonic at VOTS-The Doctor Appointment

So, I go to the doctor yesterday and towards the end of the visit I mention--hey, I've been watching every single thing I put in my mouth for a good six weeks now and that damn scale hasn't moved. I do not understand it! I'm doing the same exact thing that has always, always worked for me before and nothing! Is this because I'm fifty now? I mean, wtf?
