Humanitarianism is Geopolitical Rohypnol: Mali, continued

In case you didn't know, there is serious shit going down in Mali. In case you did know, all the information that's delivered to your door about it serves the interests of the Western Empire, not the people of Mali. Time for the latest chapter on how Western humanitarianism is being used to rape the world.

Mali is the latest subject of Western imperial ogling, and all of Obama's international neoliberal fraternity brothers are taking their turn explaining why Mali is just asking for some forcible intervention.

Arc of the Sun: If We Didn't Have an Empire, What Would It Look Like?

Burning the Midnight Oil for the Arc of the Sun

An Empire is not a single policy: it is a system. The details of an Empire vary, according to historical accident and to the different geopolitical location of the Empire and the technological base that it rests upon. It could not be otherwise, since the maintenance of the power of the Empire always takes precedence over the kinds of abstract theories and principles which might lead to uniformity in Imperial Structure. So the Incan Empire, the Qing Dynasty and the Second British Empire are all quite dramatically distinctive.

Even so, the American Empire stands out as quite distinctive in one respect. While many Empires have come to be a drain of resources for the metropole, when we look at the broad sweep of history, when the Empire is being established, Imperial expansion funds Imperial expansion. Except, to a large extent, not for the American Empire.

I stress, however, that I do not speak to single out the American Empire, but to bury it.
