BC soon to add gender identity to Human Rights Code

Equality news out of Canada from yesterday:

Attorney General Suzanne Anton said the BC Liberals will table the amendment in the upcoming summer legislative session, after years of lobbying by NDP MLA Spencer Chandra Herbert and transgender advocacy groups.

In Canada-speak, "tabling an amendment" means "bring it to the table."

As British Columbians, we must ensure everyone in B.C., especially those most likely to face discrimination, are not only protected by the law, but feel they are protected and understand that they are protected.

photo Religion-300x185_zps68a8d43b.jpgThe November 7 Malaysian high court decision that declared that Negeri Sembialn state religious officials violated the rights of three Malaysian transgender women's eight to dress as woman on is undergoing more analysis as lawyers and religiosophers continue their battle.

The Court of Appeal which decided that Muslim transgender males have the right to cross-dress said the Negri Sembilan religious authorities had failed to prove Islam's position on how those who suffered from gender identity disorder (GID) should dress

--The Malaysian Insider

The Court of Appeal has affirmed that the Negri Sembilan religious enactment violates Articles 5, 8, 9 and 10 of the Federal Constitution on the right to life and liberty, equality, freedom of movement and freedom of expression

This decision affirms the constitution’s position as the supreme law of the land.

Gender Prison: Future Leaders

Two transgender children from British Columbia are suing for the right to be themselves. Family members of both Tracey Wilson and Harriette Cunningham have filed human rights complaints.

There is much video at the above link. Both families were featured in a segment of the Canadian television program 16 x 9 last Saturday.

If you go to view it all, please remember to come back and add to the discussion. :-)

Chicago, Illinois - Colorado Labor Official Warns of Socialism and the W. F. of M.

W. H. McDonald, Colorado commissioner of labor, gave a lecture yesterday in Chicago wherein he warned the good citizens of Chicago about the dangers of the Western Labor Movement. Mr. McDonald claims that the Western Federation of Labor and the American Labor Union exist, not to promote trade unionism, but to advance socialism.

In Colorado and other Western states the labor movement has been diverted from its lawful purpose to the task of pushing the propaganda of Socialism.

We are left to wonder when the Socialist Party of America was made "unlawful." And we would like to point out to the Labor Commissioner that members of unions have the same rights as anyone else in any other organization to vote as they so please.
