Settlement proposed in HB2 lawsuit

Governor Roy Cooper of North Carolina said yesterday that transgender people will be able to use public facilities that correspond to their gender identity under a proposal to settle the lawsuit initiated to challenge North Carolina's notorious HB2.

Challengers had continued their lawsuit after legislators passed and the Democratic governor signed a law this spring replacing HB2, the law commonly known as the “bathroom bill.”

Lambda Legal sues DoJ and Education

While everyone is up in arms about the trump ban on transgender military service (I'm sure it will be covered by others), Lambda Legal has quietly filed suit in the Southern District on New York, claiming FOIA violation by the Departments of Justice and Education.

More than 5 months ago Lambda Legal requested documents about the Trump Administration's February decision to repeal the Obama Administration guidance which applied Title IX to transgender students.

With the US House acting like the Texas Senate and the Texas Senate moving like they can't punish transgender people fast enough for daring to exist, I just had to go looking for something a bit more positive.

Transgender military dependent wins right to appropriate facilities

 photo blue_zps6larakej.jpgThe principal of Ramstein Intermediate School at Ramstein Air Force Base had planned on allowing an 11-year-old transgender fifth-grader named Blue to start using the girls restroom beginning the week of October 10.

But the superintendent of schools for the East Europe region of the Department of Defense Education Activity, Dr. Elizabeth Dunham overruled that decision "for reasons that remain unclear."
