FCC Moves To End Net Neutrality

In a vote this afternoon the Federal Communications Commission voted
open debate on a proposal that would essentially end net neutrality. In a
3 - 2 vote, Chairman Thomas Wheeler and the two other Democratic
members voted to allow Internet service providers charge content companies for faster and more reliable delivery of their traffic to users.

BURLINGTON, Vt., May 1 – U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) today issued the following statement after President Barack Obama nominated telecommunications industry lobbyist Tom Wheeler to head the Federal Communications Commission:

“The appointment of a chairman of the Federal Communications Commission is a matter of enormous consequence. Before the Senate votes on Mr. Wheeler’s confirmation, the American people deserve to know where he stands on one of the most important issues facing our nation: the fact that more and more of our media are owned and controlled by fewer and fewer multi-national media conglomerates. Will Mr. Wheeler support that dangerous trend or will he oppose it?
