It's been just short of a month since I last reported on the murder of a transgender person. That was the longest period of the year. But we knew it wasn't going to continue for long.

Newark transgender teen punched and kicked in school hallway

Kylie Perez is a student at Eastside High School in Newark, NJ. Kylie says she has been bullied at school since she transitioned in sixth grade.

They would call me gay and faggot.

--Perez

Last Tuesday, Kylie was walking in the school hallway when she heard a girl shout, "There's the tranny!" She was then sucker-punched in the head until she fell, when the kicking began.

It was all caught on surveillance camera.

Death by cop

Scout Schultz, a Georgia Tech student, who identified as non-binary and intersex and was president of the Georgia Tech Pride Alliance, called 911 early Sunday morning, reporting "a person with a knife and a gun" on campus. He then went into a parking lot and waited, holding a multi-tool pocket tool with no blade exposed. Campus police arrived shortly after and surrounded Schultz with guns drawn, yelling at them to "drop the knife."

Schultz walked slowly towards the officers.

His friends say he was not transgender

Anthony Torres, an activist, artist and DJ who is known as Bubbles, was reportedly shot and killed on the same block as the New Century strip club on Larkin and Myrtle streets around 3 a.m., according to his attorney Jim Reilly.

This is a hate crime. The details are still coming out… For a transgender activist to be gunned down on [his] own street shouldn’t stand and won’t stand.

Phoenix crowd videos itself committing hate crime

Phoenix transgender teen Dakota Kern, 18, was invited to a pool party this past weekend. She shouldn't have gone.

A crowd of at least a dozen started yelling homophobic and transphobic slurs at Dakota and her friend before someone grabbed Dakota by the hair, punched her a few times, knocking her to the ground, and someone took live video of at least three people kicking her repeatedly.

Too many

Last Saturday in Waxahachie, TX, Gwynevere River Song reportedly got into an argument with another adult in her home, which led to that other person shooting Song to death. We have no idea what the argument concerned, but we do know that Song was a transgender woman. The assailant was also injured during the shooting and he was transported to a hospital.

[The deceased] remained inside the residence and succumbed to injuries.

On Monday Tee Tee Dangerfield, a 32-year-old Atlanta resident became the sixteenth transgender person known to be murdered this year. Dangerfield was found in her car near an apartment complex in College Park suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital but did not survive.

At this time, we have no information that points to the shooting being the result of our victim being transgender.

Texas activist beaten by two men because of gender identity

Stephanie Martinez is a transgender activist in Austin, TX. She met Rayshad Deloach in an online chat room. Deloach said he was interested in learning about transgender people/issues.

This is not unusual by itself. We must educate our fellow citizens about who we are in order to establish our niche in society. That's pretty much why I do what I do.
